Nando Parrado - Miracle in Andes

My good friend gave me this great book and said, begin to read and you won´t take it from your hands until you finish it. It was almost true. This true story is breathtaking.

Nando Parrado and his friends, rugby players, were flying to Chile when their plane had a crash in the middle of Andes among majestic mountain peaks at very high elevation. They were desperately stuck in Andes for 72 days, no warm clothes, water or food and mainly losing hope any help will come... they had to eat the dead bodies of their friends to survive. The hope for being rescued wasn´t realistic, so Nando and his friend Roberto tried to overcome the highness of mountains to reach civilization. It was a true miracle that they made it and nobody believed one could climb a huge mountain and very difficult terrain in such conditions of almost dead weak body without any climbers´ equipment. Nando and Roberto found help after 10-day-journey and others waiting by the crashed plane were rescued, though many people were lost in the mountains for good. They either died from the plane accident consequences or during the tough life in cold high mountains land.

The rescue was a miracle for all who survived. They were born again and they are now enjoying every moment of their life. They know what are the true priorities in one´s life.
We should feel and do the same too!

Nando is describing mainly his thoughts and what was happening within his and his friends´ minds. Inevitably the truth came up - where is the love, there can´t be death because love is stronger than death. Nando survived because he had a strong hope to meet his father, the love for his father helped him in the worst moments. It mainly helped him to overcome the power of mountains and to reach help for himself, for others, and mainly for his father giving him the gift of returned son (his mother and sister passed away in the mountains).

He is saying that there is no more philosophy needed than this basic idea:

It is my duty to fulfill my life and time the best I can, to become more human with each day and to understand that we are people only when we love. I love my friends honestly and with generosity. I love my kids with all my heart. I have loved one woman who gave my life its purpose and joy. I suffered from a big loss and I was blessed with consolation. The life gave me a lot and took me a lot, but always there is this simple wisdom: I have loved with all my heart and all my soul and I am loved for that. That is enough for me.
